" Hello black men, just wanted to let you know that you are dead! You don't know how to be father to you sons, so that leave us to raise your son's. This is why most are growing up to be gay. Most of you didn't have fathers, for this very reason you don't know what it is to be a man. You don't know how to deal with women so you are no good with relationships. Since you serve no other purpose but to screw, make babies, and pass on diseases with your "playa-playa" mantra, go ahead, kill yourselves. Shoot your selfin the head, jump off a bridge, or jump into oncoming traffic. It really doesn't matter to me. Just Do-it. You will be doing yourselves a favor. You'll be doing black women a favor and better, you will be doing your race a favor. Now do it!"
Wow! This was e-mailed to me last night. While I think this is terrible, I hope that all black women don't feel the same.

The Word Of The Day Is...................
Ubuntu, pronounced /ùbúntù/, is an African philosophy focusing on peoples allegiances and relations with each other. It is stated that this is seen as traditional African concept.
After reading about this in an article regarding The Boston Celtics team building efforts, I thought this would be of interest to the PA readers.
Here is how Nelson Mandela explains Unbuntu:
"A traveler through our country would stop at a village, and he didn't have to ask for food or for water. Once he stops, the people give him food, entertain him. That is one aspect of Ubuntu but Ubuntu has various aspects. Ubuntu does not mean that people should not enrich themselves. The question therefore is: Are you going to do so in order to enable the community around you to improve?”
Very interesting. Now if the people enriching themselves in our neighborhoods and cities would take notice to this philosophy, we would be in much better shape as a people.
Here is how Bishop Tutu explains Ubuntu:
"A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed."
I like this explanation too. It sheds light on the movement. We as Black people today feel diminished and not part of the greater whole resulting from years of oppression. I feel if we want to be called Africans (African Americans), that we should embrace their philosophies. Maybe we can find strength in the practices and traditions from the "Motherland", as we like to call it.

As you can see from the picture above, I am not talking about that nice cookout you had the privilege to attend this summer. Yes People, I am talking about the Million Man March. On October 16, 1995, an estimated 1.5 million black men converged on Washington DC to protest injustices which were tearing at the heart and soul of the black communities. And yes, you can spot me somewhere in that pic. Determined, Even if I had to lose my job, there was no way I was going to miss this supposedly historical event. While the march gave me a sense of pride, seeing my people standing up for justice in the black communities, I still left the march with a sense of emptiness. Even though the march went down without incident, there were still brothers at the march, who rather listen to the speakers, rather indulge in the alcohol and drugs that were a rallying cry for the march itself. The tens of thousand of women who showed up didn't help at all. While some wanted to be there to show support, other women where there to show what they had. All in all it was a good experience, until I look back at the pledge Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan administered to the crowd:
"I pledge that from this day forward, I will strive to love my brother as I love myself. I from this day forward will strive to improve myself spiritually, morally, mentally, socially, politically and economically for the benefit of myself, my family and my people.

Current events and current affairs preclude us to have another march on Washington. DC to protests these same injustices once again. From the statistics above, it seems not as much has changed. I hope that the next march leave me with some sense that a change will finally come. One million black men marched for change on that day, with little results. Next time there will be more, but maybe this time, I hope that we leave no doubt, that we will no longer be taken for granted. Peace and Blessings................

The other day I did a post about Civil Rights and the Woman's Liberation Movement as it pertains to the 2008 presidential election.
Why we agree on some things, Brother Bempah has a different perspective......

Is it really the same?
I read DREDAYDC’s comparison of the Women Liberation Movement to the Civil Rights Movement and thought he made some very great points, but! Isn’t there always someone that has to say but!
I really hate it when people or groups try to compare their movements to that of the civil rights movement.
These comparisons are mostly made by White people; I may be wrong but I have never heard a Black Jew, a Black woman or a black homosexual make these comparisons as much if at all.
OK, when these white women were burning bras and marching down the street, the fire departments weren’t hitting them with water that felt like 20 pound weights. White officers weren’t beating them down with sticks, shooting them with rubber bullets and putting notches on their lockers to show how many niggers they killed or hurt that day. And most of these white women could go home to a white husband that was making a nice white man’s paycheck that can bail them out of jail.
The Holocaust was one of the greatest injustices of human kind and should never be forgotten or belittled. But to talk about the millions of Jews that died, can’t forget that millions of Blacks died on the boats to America to finally arrive here and watch millions more die in cotton fields and the hands of their oppressors. And while World War II may have ended the holocaust for Jews, Blacks are still dying today at the hands of police officers, judges and an American system that holds no value to their lives or individual freedom.
As far as the homosexual movement goes… lets be real for one moment! As a homosexual, you can walk down the street in your Sunday’s best and change the way you walk, talk and maybe even be able to hide who you really are (like DL’s).
The last time my color was changed, my father helped. I think my new color was purple as he beat the hell out of me for stealing change out of my brothers money jar to get something from the ice cream truck. Under regular circumstances, color just can’t change! Yes some of these persons have been killed, a lot are hated but they can hide in plane site. A Black person can only hide in a grave.
By the way, the Republican Party has a dark horse named Fred Thompson (Former Senator of Tennessee) that will win the 2008 election! Why do you think they tell you not to tell others who you plan to vote for? This is how they cover up the lie of who the winner really is. As with your job, you’re told not to discuss your salary; once the truth is known, the lie must stop or be changed. But that’s something for another day.
These are just the thoughts of an African on-looker.

We aint going nowhere..............
You see them. They are everywhere. If you have the privilege or duty to commute to work in the DC area, you'll see them. See whom you say? Our children is the answer. The other morning I was running late to work (long night out) and I was in a bit of a rush. I had to stop to get change to put on the subway. I stopped in the store and bought some gum, and the cashier seeing that I was rushing kindly obliged me with his quickness. I take off walking like a speed demon, calmly passing the kids who were standing out in front of the store. Then the "youngins" posted up in front of the apartment building. And now past the police officer writing a ticket on a disabled car. Finally I reached my destination, the subway, I look at my watch and realized that it was 10:00 am. "Wow" I am an hour late, better hurry. That's when this hit me. While I was wearing off the tread of my new casual shoes, the kids weren’t in much of a hurry. Quite frankly, they weren’t moving! Even with a police officer in their vicinity, the kids went about their business as if they weren’t breaking the law. I know the police have bigger fish to fry, but allowing the kids to hang out on the "block" while school is in session is totally disturbing. I know blame the parents, but isn't it the job of police to pick up truants? I'm just saying, what do you think?

A truant is a minor between the ages of five and 18 who without a valid reason and without parental knowledge or consent, does not attend school. Under the Truancy Law, students in public, private, independent, parochial or charter schools operating in the District of Columbia, as well as students from other jurisdictions, may be stopped by the MPD for suspected truancy.
Now tell the Kids to get to school!!!!

Please let your kids know that sitting for hours playing video games is not exercise.
Encourage you kids to participate in a physical activities such as football, swimming, running or anything other than playing video games.
Get your fat butt up too and participate with your children, you too need the exercise.
Encourage.....No, create healthy eating habits. That means getting home early and preparing a healthy meal, not bringing it home in Styrofoam.
Encourage them to drink water and while encouraging, grab some for yourself. "stop the pop"
Provide fruits and veggies. They like Sugar Fruit Loops, maybe they'll like apples and oranges too.
Turn on the radio and have a dance competition with your kids. This we'll be blast for all involved.

Legend or Sellout, You Decide..........
I can remember when I fell in love with Michael Jordan… the basketball player not the Icon. It was while watching the 1982 NCAA basketball championship. The way as a freshman, he calmly knocked down that jump shot from the corner in the waning seconds of that game led me and others to believe we were on the verge of seeing greatness take its course. And it did. Not only did he go on to become one of the greatest college ballers of all time, he went out and totally dominated NBA to the tune of 6 championships and countless awards. His prowess on the court led to numerous endorsements off the court as well. One of his endeavors was his endorsement of Nike, which later created Jordan Brand in his likeness. This is where it gets tricky with me. While people (mostly people of color & minorities) suffered through robberies, theft and death from wearing his brand shoe, Mr. Jordan never addressed theses instances resulting from the purchase of his shoes. Mind you that the price tag is 30% of some peoples rent; Mr. Jordan kept on selling his soul… I mean his shoes to people who reveled in his basketball legend. Unlike Shaq, Stephon Marbury, and many others who broke endorsement deals to create fiscally priced shoes to release to the public, Mr. Jordan continues to peddle his shoes to the masses at up to $200 dollar a clip and in the minority neighborhood sometimes death. My question to you Mr. Jordan is: Is the pittance you receive from Nike to use you likeness worth all the death and destruction it has caused the minority community? I’m just asking, what do you think?

Those that know me, namely my children, know that I have a running joke! Before I can finish the sentence they can finish it for me…. “The most racist movie on God’s green earth….” And they finish for me “…Plant of the Apes.” (The original)
This movie vividly depicts what the powers that be thought/think of brown brothers of every nation/location (African American, Black, African, what ever you would like to call yourself). Separate, concur and move in for the kill!
In the movie the Gorilla’s (darker, stronger and least of the intellectually gifted) were the soldiers set out to guard and protect the race. The “red-bone” or lightest/fairest toned monkeys were the scientist, the lawmakers and the chief arbiters of all that was good. The third group, our caramel brothers were the typified middle class doctors, managers and working class individuals who were smart enough to make a living and are accepted by both groups because they share a little likeness of both.
Soon a “white man” finds himself in the midst of this planet. (If any of you remember the movie, he reached the Plant of the Apes via space exploration) He soon convinces the caramel monkeys that the “redbone” and dark-skinned individuals have all the power. Not only did he seek to create division for the purposes of concurring this apparently harmonious nation of Apes, he began to employ the women in his plan… he convinced one of the monkey woman to kiss him. These old tricks have been used on us.
Understand it’s probably too late for you and I—you may have already made up your mind about your blackness- - as for your children, teach them that having a diverse cultural background makes them special. Our varying shades of color make us brothers and apart of a large extended family, not enemies. Ensure that they use diversity to find commonality instead of divisiveness.
25% of any racial mixture assures that you are not white--but it dam sure makes you an interesting blend of colorful people that came before you!
Teaching this fundamental principle of self-love will serve us well for generations. Divisiveness is a trick used in war and in the deterioration of a great people. The war we experience within the African American community is a reflection of this separation brainwashing and can be since in the homicide rates amongst our young men and those that took their lives; other young black men!
Let our children understand that to take a life of another person of color is the same as killing a person of their own family. Fair-to-medium-to dark, it’s our family!

Black Student Says Security Guard Broke Her Arm For Spilling Crumbs
She says he called her “nappy-headed” as he twisted her arm and bent her over a tableThe mother of a 16-year-old Los Angeles-area high school student says her daughter was assaulted by security guard who broke her wrist for spilling cake crumbs on the floor at lunchtime. The incident, which occurred last week at Knight High School in Palmdale, Calif., was caught on a cell phone camera by another student who was then also assaulted by the security guards and suspended from school, the parents say. The girl whose arm was allegedly broken by the guards, Pleajhai Mervin, told Fox News LA that she was bumped in the lunch room and dropped her cake. She said she was ordered to clean it up, which she did, then to re-clean the spot three separate times. Embarrassed, Pleajhai said she attempted to leave but was jumped on by burly White security guards who twisted her arm and bent her across a table, breaking her wrist in the process. She says the officer called her “nappy-headed” and told her to “hold still” as he roughed her up. The incident didn’t end there. The security guards later had the mother of the girl arrested after she hired an attorney and insisted that the guard be arrested. The mother says she was told that she was being arrested and charged with battery for allegedly pushing the guard and an assistant principal. She was then suspended from her job at another school in the county. Pleajhai was suspended for five days and arrested for battery and for littering for spilling the crumbs. The student who captured the video on her cell phone was also arrested, along with his sister who was present at the scene. Watch the video, and let us know whether you think the guards are guilty of excessive force.

If you live in the DC area, when you hear someone mention the housing project name Barry Farms, ones first thought may be of fear. Long known as a notorious violent neighborhood, a place where many mothers are brought to tears at the reality of losing their kids to the drug game, neighborhood feuds, petty beefs, and jail, this neighborhood has suffered through a lot. While the neighborhood has seen a drop in the ruthless manner in which it became infamously known, many people are still looking for a ray of hope. One thing that remains a constant and brings a smile and a sense of pride to the people of this neighborhood is the annual installment of the Goodman Basketball Summer League. Run by Mr. Miles, this long standing tournament attracts most of the city’s accomplished players. While most of the areas most accomplished playground legends have played behind the gates (Curt Smith, Victor Page, Lonnie Harrell to name a few), the league in years lacked a true identity, with its annual game against Team And1 becoming its annual highlight. That changed when the Washington Wizards had the privilege of signing the” Zero Hero”, none other than Gilbert Arenas. While the Wizards have had many of all star talents, none of them has endeared their self to the community like Mr. Arenas has. If you are a regular behind the gates, you get to see the easiest going millionaire you’ll see in your life. Here, in one the notorious violent neighborhoods in DC, you see Gilbert interacting with the young kids, taking photos with everyone and pretty much having a good time. Many of people, with less of a financial portfolio than Mr. Arenas, are victim of robberies in this neighborhood. Not Gilbert! Could it be all the free shoes he gives away to the kids? Or the donations he makes to recreation center? Or maybe it’s the money he donated the league to help facilitate it facelift. All of these are valid reasons, but in reality the main reason lies in heart of Mr. Arenas itself. Unlike other basketball players in the past, Barry Farms didn’t come looking for him, he sought them out. His genuine generosity, interactions with community and unwavering entertainment value are very much appreciated by the people who count the most, the people of Barry Farms. For that very reason, Gilbert can feel at home and feel safe as a member of the community behind the gates. Gilbert, you are appreciated. At least by the people who get to see you play in the gates? If you don’t know by now, Mr. Arenas has plans on opting out his contact after this year. He’s stated that if the Wizards make move’s to improve the team and pay him what he’s worth, then there shouldn't be any worries. "Whatever", Mr. Pollin has a history of undervaluing his superstars. It has happened many times in my lifetime. My friends always laugh, saying that Washington is “rest stop” for star players, and to some extent I believe them. Agent Zero is the perfect player to lead us back to the promise land. Mr. Pollin, not only do you have a All Star guard who averages 30 points a game but one who also averages hundreds of smiles from all the people who get to see him play for free in SE each year. I know the NBA is a business, and I am no one to tell a man what to do with his millions, but yet Mr. Pollin let me give you some advice, "Pay the Man".You won’t regret it, the fans won’t forget it, and most of all, and the people who are personally attached to Agent Zero, the people of Barry Farms will finally give you some credit. Pay The Damn Man.

If you aren't crazy or been in solitary confinement for the past couple of years, you are aware that the "Man" has finally given its approval and has put aside some land in order to erect a monumental memorial for non other than, the martyr of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King. Dr. King sacrificed so much for our people that it gets on my last nerves to think that while these ringtone rappers run around in there blinged out whips, wearing $100,000 chains, and popping thousand of dollars champagne, the memorial fund is still in need of money. Yeah I know what you are going to say, "Have you donated?" and the answer is yes. Woman Liberation or Civil Rights, Who Will You, Choose?
Imagine the rights of Black people in America in the 1900’s….now imagine the rights of women in this same era…..any difference? While there are many differences between the two, both parties suffered many injustices compared to where we stand in today’s society. Both had to fight for the right to vote, for equal rights, and the right to basic rights as was given to any American. That’s were they part comparison. While both have suffered, let’s not go over our head, Black people have suffered more than anyone on this continent. Black people, in order to obtain equal rights, did so by starting the Civil Rights Movement. These movements, allowed blacks to desegregate schools, secure voting rights and finally have protected rights in society. The Woman Liberation Movement gave women equal rights in the workplace, which included equitable wages, political rights, and an affirmation of “equal sex” in modern society. While both movements have coincided with each other, the Civil Rights movement died with the untimely deaths of its leaders and the disbandment of the organizations it spawned. In today’s society, the Woman’s Liberation Movement has moved to higher heights. In the workplace and in society in general, women have taken on greater roles in modern day America. While parallel in time frame, both movements served purpose and notice that they will no longer accept any discretion regarding their civil liberties. And like a mother of the movements, look at its babies. In the 2008 race for the Democratic nomination for president, we have two individuals, one black, one woman, in the running for their party nomination. While most people believe that race and gender have no credence in public forums, the reality is they do. I for one, when Jesse Jackson was running for president, would have cast my lot with him for no reason other that his skin. Now that I am more mature and informed on politics, that will no longer be my rationale in picking the most qualified candidate. Woman, don’t lie, you would love it to see a woman running the United States of America. Hillary Clinton winning the presidency would be celebrated by the undaunted chat of “Girl Power”. While Mr. Obama winning would be celebrated by the new hymn of “We Have Finally Overcame”. Like most in society, most people believe qualifications, not race and gender, play a major role in elections. I say “not” for people of these movements. They have suffered so long to get to this point, so if you believe race and gender will not play a major factor in this election then you are kidding yourselves. The only question that remains is whom will the Black women side for. Will they side with movement that gave their people freedom or will they side with the movement who gave their gender equal status in their communities, workplace and households. Very easy choice to me but to some this will be a vote divided. Especially to the Black woman. Do we vote for the movement that gave them life or the one that put them in the very discussion we are having now. The choice is yours!!!!!!!!!

Public Assistance Magazine Launch
Hello Everyone!!!!
My Name is Dre, creator and manager of this little blog thingy right here!!!!
A little overview of where we are trying to go.........
Founded in 2007, Public Assistance Magazine sole purpose is to give people a voice, who for one reason or another have been denied that privilege. Whether Politics, Sports, Entertainment, Fashion, or controversial topics, our goal is to cover it in a manner in which you the reader deem important.
This just the beginning, so if you bare with me, we should be up to speed in no time!!!
THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED
Enough is Enough
You want to know why I’m mad? You really want to know? Well here it is. The system is f*cked up That’s right I said that. The climate among inhabitants of this fare (no not fair country) is reaching its boiling point. You want to know why? Because some people just don’t get it. This country is not fair. From the time my peoples were brought here on boats by the ruling European nations we have been robbed. Robbed of what you say? Robbed of our dignity, culture, ancestry, and family to name a few. But the damnest is our right to live in equal society, Not one that punish people on different scales because of color of skin or class. We are the only people in this nation who cannot trace their heritage. I have Asian, Latino, Russian, Canadian, African and well…all sorts of friends, who can trace their heritage. They can all say that they come from a particular part of the earth. Not my people!! We were African when we got here but after dividing our families, and enforcing there Totalitarian beliefs we were first given the name slaves, then niggers, then negroes, then blacks and now the worldly accepted African Americans. First of all we are not African. We were robbed of that by tyranny of Europe. American you say? When have we bee truly given a far shake from America. Maybe it was when we were only allowed to sit on the back of the bus, or only allowed to drink out of “Black Only” water fountains. I know some people are going to say, “ That stuff happened in the past, Get Over It”. I say NO! These type of instances occurred as recently the 60’s and 70’s. Right when someone deemed that Martin Luther King had to die or because he saw reason with the cause that Mr. Kennedy also had to go. All because we wanted equal rights men had to die. Men, Women and children had to be subject to being sicked by dogs, sprayed with water canons, and risking being beating by cops who were just enforcing the law. Young mothers had to see the harsh reality of seeing there husbands, sisters, children and sons swing from trees because? We had no rights. We just had to deal with it. Turn the other cheek. Not any more. Here it is 2007 and our people still have to ask permission to sit under a tree. Kids have to be subject to different scales of punishment. Our athletes and stars subjected to different scales of justice. Remeber Robert Blake? He to was acquitted of killing his wife but yet he is allowed to live his life in total obscurity (unlike OJ, when he isn’t doing it to himself). Other stars of different races (Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan) only serve minutes and jail while my people (Foxy Brown) are remanded to jail for similar offenses. We still live in a country where people still revere a haunting reminder of the good ole days (the confederate flag). They say get over it! That racism no longer exists. That’s BS. Then why is the KKK still a national recognized organization? Why are they still allowed to spew that hate all over the country? The government tore down the Black Panthers and all other movements that my peoples created to better ourselves. Was it because they deemed the movement a threat?
If the Black Panthers were a threat to society then what do you call the KKK? Equal justice huh? Bull Shyt!!!!! Now we have media personalities, who do nothing other tan spew their idiotic views to the masses. First Nappy Headed Hoes!!! Now Mfer Iced Tea. The people at FOX News ought to ashamed of their selves. You want to go at BET for showing black people in a light that some deem offensive? Why not go at the Hannity’s, O’Reilly’s, And the Fox News of the world and tell them that their content is not welcome likewise. Or is It? Back to the peoples down in Jena. They should be punished for that attack. The prosecutor had his chance to do the right thing but he didn’t. Instead of giving the equal justice to these individuals, he showed that equal justice still doesn’t exist in this country. I want to personally thank him for it. That’s right thank him. If it wasn’t for him, our formerly misinformed, uneducated, and uninterested peoples would not be taking this critical stance for our future and the future of our people. To be an American it is stated that all people are created equal, but why for over 500 years have my peoples suffer through so many injustices. Maybe we are not Americans. We can’t go back to Africa (or can we) so since we are here we should make the best of it. But this time let’s do it right. Enough is Enough!!!!!!!!!!
